TN Govt to float tender to procure 25 lakh Colour TV sets
Chennai, Sept 22 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government tonight decided to float global tender to procure 25 lakh Colour Televisions to be distributed free of cost to poor families during the second phase of the programme.
Chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, the Committee of legislators, constituted for the purpose of procuring TV sets, met here this evening and decided to procure the sets after ensuring that they had quality and genuine spare parts.
In view of the model code of conduct being in force in the State for elections to the local bodies, the meeting decided to obtain permission from the State Election Commission and release advertisements for global tenders in the first week of October, an official release said.
Before going for the procurement, the committee decided to meet again and take final decisions, the release added.
In the first phase, launched on September 15, 30,000 TV sets were distributed to people in 145 Samathuvapurams (equality habitations), refugee camps and few slum clearance board tenements.
