Mulayam scoffs at Cong for terming UP govt spendthrift
Gorakhpur, Sep 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today scoffed at the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for terming his regime spendthrift.
Addressing a public meeting at Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University here, Mr Yadav claimed the Congress was terming Kanya Vidyadhan Yojna and unemployment allowance as useless expenditure.
''The truth is that either the centre has not released any funds for various centrally-sponsored developmental schemes to UP or given only little money,'' he asserted.
Mr Yadav said he had written twice to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in June and August asking for funds to ''give encouragement to the youth'' in the state.
''However, the PM expressed inability to provide financial assistance citing resource crunch.'' The CM also read out the text of the PM's letter before the gathering.
Earlier, Mr Yadav distributed unemployment allowance among the educated youth and Kanya Vidya Dhan among girls.
