Movie on Sikh martyr Baba Deep Singh

Chandigarh, Sep 22 (UNI) The first cinemascope Punjabi film based on Sikh history titled 'Baba Deep Singhji' was released today simultaneously in England, Canada, the US and India.

Sub-titled as 'Anokhe Amar Shaheed,' the film depicts the story of 'Immortal Martyr' Baba Deep Singh who had fought the Mughal invaders valiantly and sacrificed his life for Sikhism.

As per the Sikh tradition of not showing the religious leaders in human garb, Baba Deep Singh has not been portrayed as a character in the film but his story has been narrated through the other characters of his time, said Gurpreet Singh who plays the main character of Jathedar Baghel Singh.

The film has been produced with a budget of Rs 2.5 crore and the battle scenes have been picturised with as many as 250 horses and 550 artistes, he said.

Another unique feature of the film is that real Sikhs are playing all the main characters for the first time in the history of bollywood, Mr Gurpreet Singh said.
