Champions Trophy arrives in Pune
Pune, Sep 22 (UNI) The ICC Champions Trophy was unveiled by former National selection committee chairman Chandu Borde at a glittering function here today.
Two-wheeler major Hero Honda, one of the global partners for all the International Cricket Council (ICC) cricket tournaments, showcased the trophy after its arrival here from Kolkata.
The 20,000 dollar trophy, weighing eight kilos of solid silver with a glittering cricket ball atop, has been crafted by the world famous jewellers ''Amspree'', the official makers of British Crown.
The glittering trophy was unveiled amidst psychedelic riot of colours by the former India captain, Borde, through a remote control.
Speaking on the occasion, Borde recalled that the team selected by his committee won the 1983 World Cup in England. In a lighter vein, he remarked that if given a chance, he would again select the Indian team which will capture this trophy as well.
The 55-test veteran, who retuned from Malaysia only yesterday, lauded Hero Honda for its association with cricket and other games.
The Company has provided an opportunity to the common man to actually feel the trophy which, otherwise, they could see only on television or in photographs, he said.
Earlier, Hero Honda West Zone manager, Sanjay Mittal highlighted his Company's association with cricket since 1993, leading up to the ICC World Cup 2007 to be held in the Caribbean.
The Trophy, after passing through Agra, Lucknow, Indore and Kolkata, has come to Pune and, after an overnight halt, will be taken to Delhi, Mr Mittal said.
Earlier, the Champions Trophy was taken round the city with a lot of fanfare. It was greeted by thousands of cricket enthusiasts en route. Various cricketing quizzes and other interactive activities were also organised by the Company.
