Tension at Jipmer as Police remove striking employees
Puducherry, Sep 21 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Jipmer hospital campus here today as the police removed the striking employees from the campus.
The employees continued with their indefinite strike for the 14th day today to protest against the move to grant autonomous status to the centrally administered Jipmer hospital.
The police today showed the striking employees, the court order restraining them from indulging in any form of agitation inside the campus. Following this, heated arguments were exchanged between the police and the striking employees.
Finally, the police removed them from the campus.
Later, the employees took out a rally upto the Legislative Assembly, in protest.
Meanwhile, hospital services continued partially with the available staffs and a few recently appointed temporary employees.
The residents of the Jipmer quarters last night demonstrated outside the Chief Minister's residence, following a threat by an armed gang.
Employees said an armed gang, which entered the Jipmer quarters last night threatened to kill the inmates if they failed to report for duty today.
Police intervened and informed the Chief Minister, about the incident.
Later on, after the Chief Minister's assurance that proper action would be initiated to arrest the culprits, they dispersed.
