Syrian Christian Association declares support to Catholicos

Pathanamthitta, Sept 21 (UNI) The Syrian Christian Association, the supreme decision-making body of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church, today declared full support to Catholicos Basaleos Didimos I.

The election and enthronement of Didimos I as the Catholicos of the East and Metropolitan of Malankara was also appoved by the Association, which met at Prumala, near here.

The Association meeting was convened on the strength of a directive issued by Didimos I as the Catholicos and the Malankara Metropolitan.

The Association meeting was stayed earlier by the Ernakulam Munsiff court on a petition filed by a few laymen alleging that the Didimos I lacked authority to convene such a meeting. But the Ernakulam Additional District Court ordered the Munsiff court's stay null and void yesterday considering an appeal submitted by the Church.

The Association meeting was adjourned to October 12 to elect the Catholicos-designate.
