Opposition rakes up farmers' suicide in Bundelkhand
Lucknow, Sep 21 (UNI) BJP today raised the issue of suicide by farmers in Bundelkhand region due to poverty and loss of agricultural produce.
Leader of the opposition Lalji Tandon, through an adjournment motion, raised the issue in the state assembly, claiming 50 such deaths had been reported in the last two months in UP.
Criticising the state government for ignoring farmers, the BJP leader said most farmers were depressed due to rising financial debt after drought-like situation prevailed in UP.
Referring to recent incident of two farmers' suicides in Mahoba district, he said the state government was insensitive over the issue.
However, state revenue minister Ambika Choudhury said there was no death due to starvation in the state and assured the house to investigate into such matters.
BJP member Narendra Singh Gaur raised the recent gruesome killing of a policeman in Allahabad, while BJP member Rangnath Mishra described the law and order situation in Bhadoi district as poor.
