Guwahati, Sep 21: A fortnightly newspaper 'North East Power News' has hit the stands in Guwahati.

Launching the newspaper here last night, MLA Capt Robin Bordoloi said the newspaper would disseminate latest information on power scenario of the region.

He said prosperity of the state depends on many factors including power. Other than Meghalaya, most of the states in the region have been facing power shortage despite huge potential of power generation in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, former NEEPCO CMD S N Phukon said power is a core sector, which remains the precondition for industrial and socio-economic development of a region.

The installed capacity of the power projects in the North Eastern Region is estimated at 2443.07 MW including 1095.02 MW hydro-electric power, 1223.24 MW thermal power and 124.81 MW from renewable sources.

The North East Power News would highlight power potential of the region in hydro and thermal sectors. It would also focus on efforts made by the Centre, state governments, various public and private enterprises to develop the power sector in the region.
