No sealing till Sep 25 due to inadequate security to staff:MCD
New Delhi, Sep 21 (UNI) A day after citywide violent protests by the traders against sealing of their shops, the MCD today decided to suspend the drive till September 25, after the staffers of the Corporation expressed apprehensions about their security during the operations.
The decision to suspend the sealing drive till September 25 was taken by the MCD in consultations with the Delhi Police, an MCD spokesperson said.
MCD sources said the decision came after the police expressed its inability to provide additional police force to ensure security of the MCD sealing squads during sealing operations.
Infact, Congress leaders in the MCD had earlier said they had received phone call from family members of hundreds of MCD officers expressing apprehensions about the safety of their kin.
''They have demanded that unless adequate security is provided to them, they are not ready to undertake sealing operations,''Leader of the opposition Jitender Kochar told newspersons here in a joint press conference along with Standing committee Chairman Jaikishen Sharma.
Earlier, the drive had been suspended for today for the same reason.
The MCD staffers and their kin have voiced apprehensions of their security in view of yesterday's incidents wherein traders clashed with the police and MCD sealing squad.
Yesterday too, the MCD sealing operation had suffered a severe setback due to violent protest by traders during the Delhi Bandh with the corporation sealing just 24 properties in the capital.
