Newsmen, policeman injured in blast

Midnapur, Sep 21 (UNI) Four journalists and a senior police official were critically injured when explosives kept in a box exploded near the Lalgarh police station in this Maoist-affected district today.

Police said the explosives, kept in a tiffin box, were recovered from the Lalgarh area and brought to the police station. The bomb disposal squad took the box away to defuse it.

However, there was a huge explosion when they opened the box.

A reporter and three press photographers, who had rushed in on hearing about the incident, were seriously injured along with an additional superintendent of police.

They were rushed to the Midnapur Hospital.

Police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a hunt.

They suspect the explosives were left behind by the Maoists.
