New Malayalam monthly tabloid launched

Kochi, Sep 21 (UNI) Union Planning and Programme Implementation Minister Oscar Fernandez launched a new monthly tabloid newspaper ''Goodway Malayalam'' here today.

Handing over the first copy of the 48-page newspaper to Mr P C Thomas, MP, Mr Fernandez said it was heartening to see a newspaper which was being brought out with the intent of covering ''positive news''.

Praising Keralites for being hard working and honest, he said because of this they had come into prominence in several fields including nursing and information technology.

Mr P C Thomas said that till some time ago, there were no facilities for simultaneous translation of Malayalam speeches in the Lok Sabha. ''Only after I raised this issue with the Speaker that one person was employed for this,'' he added.

Chairman and Managing Director of the Goodway Business Corporation P Rajendran said that it was his dream for a long time to bring out a newspaper which would ''fill the readers with a positive energy''.

The monthly paper is being launched with an initial print order of 200,000 copies and efforts will be made to convert it into a daily newspaper in a year's time, he added.

Also present on the occasion were Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams and former state ministers K V Thomas and Dominic Presentation.
