Media protest against assault

Hyderabad, Sep 21: Electronic media employees today staged a dharna at the RTC cross roads here protesting against the alleged assault against a TV cameraman covering the agitation of the weights and measures department, by a senior officer.

According to sources, the employees of the department were protesting against the harassment of women employees by the Deputy Controller and some media persons went to the office to cover the event. The Commissioner of the department, a senior IPS officer R P Mena who came to the office, questioned the mediapersons how they had entered the compound without his consent.

The media representatives alleged that the Commissioner had assaulted the cameraman of a local TV channel and damaged his camera. Following the incident, media persons and employees of the weights and measures department took out a rally from the Gandhinagar office to the RTC cross roads and staged a dharna there.

BJP MLA G Kishan Reddy and CPI(M) MP Madhu visited the spot and expressed solidarity with the agitating employees and media persons.
