Letter bomb explodes in Manacadu post office
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 21 (UNI) A 'letter bomb' exploded at a local post office here this morning while a postal employee was examining one of the three envelopes found over weight.
Police said the incident occurred at Manacadu Post Office when the postman, Ravikumar, pressed one envelope, received from Sreekariyam post office, to check the material contained in it.
However, no one was injured in the minor explosion.
The letter exploded with a mild sound and fire emerged from it.
The bomb squad, who examined the letter found gun powder and some wire in the envelope. The other two letters were taken for detailed examination, police said.
The police would look into the incident seriously, in the wake of President A P J Abdul Kalam's visit to the capital city this evening.
After preliminary investigation it was found that both the ''from'' and ''to'' addresses were fake. Further investigations are on, police added.
