Kalpana Chawla School provides job-oriented courses

Allahabad, Sep 21 (UNI) The Kalpana Chawla Career School for women is providing job-oriented courses for poor girls and women here.

The school, run by the Punjabi Welfare and Cultural Society is providing courses on computers such as computer awareness, intelligent typing, MS office, DTP, internet and Tally.

Besides, courses on English, Hindi and Punjabi languages are also available, which aim to empower women to earn a livelihood, Punjabi Welfare and Cultural Society general secretary K K Bhutani said today.

The society honours 20 best girl students of Allahabad every year in memory of Kalpana Chawla, who gave her life for the cause of science.

The awards carry a scholarship of Rs 1,100, a memento, photograph of Kalpana Chawla and a merit certificate.

This year, the function, which is slated to be held on September 23, would be graced by Mr Banarasi Lal Chawla -- father of Kalpana Chawla, while Prof Rajen Harshe -- vice chancellor of the Allahabad University would be the chief guest.
