Jehad Council to consider ceasefire from India

Srinagar, Sept 21: The Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) today said any ceasefire proposal from the government will be considered by the United Jehad Council (UJC), an alliance of different militant outfit operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement faxed to local journalists from HM media centre set up at Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), a spokesman of the outfit said HM, a constituent of the UJC, could not take any individual decision about the ceasefire.

''Any proposal from India will be discussed by the UJC constituents before taking any decision,'' the spokesman said, adding any decision by the UJC, headed by HM chief Syed Salahuudin, on ceasefire or any other matter will be binding on the outfit.

However, he said that HM had made it clear time and again that until the Indian government accepts its four demands, no ceasefire offer will be made or accepted.

The demands included acceptance of Kashmir as a dispute by India, return of security forces to pre 1989 positions, an end to all Human Rights violations and release of all prisoners unconditionally.

''Until India accepts these conditions, there will be no possibility of any ceasefire,'' the spokesman said.
