Indian youth arrested for confining a woman

Singapore, Sep 21 (UNI) A 24-yr-old IT executive from India has been charged here with wrongfully detaining a young Vietnamese woman, who died after falling from his fourth -storey apartment.

Rohit Kumar alledgedly locked the main door of the apartment at about 1900 hrs on Tuesday, preventing Dinh Thanh Tuyen, believed to be in her early 20s, from leaving.

The neighbours told local media that Kumar had earlier returned to his flat with four bottles of beer, and the woman visited him an hour later. Both were heard arguing by them, the media reported.

The accused was put in police remand yesterday and will appear in court next Wednesday. If convicted, he faces an year's imprisonment, or a fine of 1,000 Singapore dollars or both.

According to Singapore media reports, Rohit had also tried to kill himself with pieces of broken glasses and threatened to jump from the flat.

The police had to break the door and arrest him for attempting suicide.

A neighbour, Madam Su, said the accused had told her that he was taking medication for anxiety attacks.
