Kolkata, Sep 21 (UNI) West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi conveyed his condolences to the families of the two policemen, killed in a blast at Lalgarh in West Midnapore district today.

Describing the incident as 'most regrettable', the Governor, in a message, also expressed distress over the injuries suffered by others, including mediapersons.

Meanwhile, alleging that the Lalgarh blast was the handiwork of Maoist and Jharkhand Party activists, CPI(M) State Committee Secretary Biman Basu warned such forces not to ''play with fire''.

Calling for a mass resistance against such activities, Mr Basu, however, appealed to the underground extremists to join the mainstream.

In a statement, Kolkata Press Club demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident and sympathised with the families of the injured photo journalists.

Alleging that the blast was the result of 'inefficiency' of police, Kolkata Photographers' Association demanded that the State Government bear expenses for treatment of the injured photo journalists.
