English education important at primary level: Yediyurappa
Bangalore, Sep 21 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa today underscored the need to introduce English at the primary level in all schools, including Government ones, without compromising on the importance of the local language - Kannada.
Speaking to newspersons here after launching two unique Maths self help books for standard I and II, published by the Biocon Foundation, he said Karnataka had attained the distinction of being the country's knowledge capital and to sustain it, there was a need to impart English in Kannada medium schools also.
Referring to the Biocon Foundation, which had taken several initiatives to serve the rural community in Bangalore Rural district in the fields of sanitation, health and education, Mr Yediyurappa assured Biocon Chairperson and Managing Director Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of all help from the State Government's side for her endeavour.
