ECI to streamline election system in NE region
Aizawl, Sep 21 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) has decided to streamline the election system and assess the pace of implementation of the Photo Identity Card (PIC) system across North-East region.
Mizoram Chief Electrol Officer Lalmalsawma said here today a meeting between the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC)and the two Election Commissioners (ECs) along with Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of the eight NE states held on September 19 discussed measures to streamline the election system and the PIC system.
The meeting also assumed importance in view of the forthcoming bypolls in Manipur and Mizoram.
He also said the meeting reviewed several issues related to the functioning of CEOs, besides, administrative reforms for smooth election processes in the NE states.
The process of electoral rolls preparation, polling station rationalisation, state level computerisation and election expenses were the main agenda, Mr Lalmalsawma said.
The CEO's in the region were directed to accelerate the process of providing PICs to all eligible voters so as to check fake voting, he said.
