Durga Puja celebrations under security

Jaunpur, Sep 21: Durga Puja would be celebrated here under tight security cover here following constant terror threats during festivities.

Superintendent of Police Shachi Ghildiyal said security has been beefed up with PAC, local police and bomb squads pressed into service.

Cutting across religions, people offer prayers during 'Saptami', 'Ashtami' and 'Navami' to propitiate the 'goddess of power' for prosperity and redemption of sins.

There are hundreds of idol and pandal makers who arrive in the city from neighbouring districts and West Bengal every year during this time. Craftsmen are engaged in giving final touches to idols and 'puja Pandals'.The pujas are stated to start from September 28.
