DoNER recieves funds for development of NE

Imphal, Sept 21: During the current fiscal, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has released a huge amount for various projects in the NE states on 31st August this year.

About Rs 787.95 lakhs under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) for some developmental projects at Arunachal Pradesh, Rs 13776.76 lakh for Asom, Rs 110.54 lakh for Meghalaya, Rs 342.789 lakh for Mizoram, Rs 3287.64 lakh for Nagaland, Rs 1654.53 lakh for Sikkim and Rs 2668.52 lakh for Tripura.

The ministry had released about Rs 50.52 crores for Manipur.

Manipur Information Centre (MIC) officials said under the Education sector Rs 6 crore for various infrastructure development of Manipur University, which was given a Central University status recently, and 60 affiliated colleges.

About Rs 27.21 lakh was sanctioned for construction of eight classrooms of Rengkai Government High School at Churachandpur District and Rs 378.05 lakh for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan 2006-07.

For Power department about 989.23 was released for construction of various Sub-Stations at Tousem, Tamei, Singhat, Lakhamei, Namare and Thinkew.

A sum of Rs. 67.50 lakh was released for installation of 132/33 KV Sub-Stations at Rengpang in Tamenglong District.

All these power projects are located at the hill areas of Manipur.

Power officials said till November one uninterrupted power would be provided with only six hours of load-shedding on every third day.

Earlier there was no regular power supply in Manipur.

About Rs 90 lakh was released as second installment for construction of Bailey Suspension Bridge with 350 feet span over Barak Riveron Tamenglong-Tousem-Haflong Road.

As fifth installment, a sum of Rs 1874.00 lakh was released for construction of 59 km long Senapati-Phaibung Road.

To improve water supply in the state Rs 726.01 lakh was released as second installment.
