Cong laments supporting Mulayam govt
Maharajganj, Sep 21 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home and senior Congress leader Sriprakash Jaiswal today lamented the party's support in the formation of the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh government.
Addressing a public meeting at Farenda town here, Mr Jaiswal said the support was only meant to keep the communal forces at bay in UP.
Congress is extending outside support to the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led UP alliance.
''Since, Congress was instrumental in lodging the Mulayam government, the party is also responsible for the dismal law and order situation and prevailing corruption in UP,'' Mr Jaiswal added.
He claimed the political career of Mr Yadav had already finished, when Congress supported him in government formation.
''Therefore, UP Congress leaders are also responsible for the present mess in the state,'' Mr Jaiswal assested.
Terming Mr Yadav as the biggest communal figure, the union minister claimed the SP chief was indirectly involved in all the communal riots in his regime.
''UP is trailing other states on several parameters, since mere slogans of turning Uttar Pradesh into 'Uttam Pradesh' will not usher in development,'' the Kanpur MP observed.
