Approval for JNNURM house project in AP city on Sep 28

Vijayawada, Sep 21 (UNI) The Central Sanction Committee (CSC) will approve the construction of 15,000 pucca houses in the city, under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), at its meeting at New Delhi on September 28.

Informing this to the press here today, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner Natarajan Gulzar said he would leave for New Delhi to attend the meeting.

The houses, meant for rehabilitating the poor families staying on the banks of River Krishna, would be constructed at a cost of Rs 258 crore of which the Centre would bear Rs 75 crore. The balance would come from bank loans.

On September 14, a state-level steering committee of JNNURM met under the chairmanship of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at Hyderabad and recommended the detailed project to the Centre.

The state government proposed to construct the pucca houses in two years time for people living below poverty line by acquiring 200 acre of land near the city.

Meanwhile, Mr Gulzar told UNI there was no flood threat in the areas close to Budameru Rivulet as the water levels started receding.
