WR employs 42 relatives of 7/11 blast victims

Mumbai, Sep 20 (UNI) The Western Railway (WR) has sent letters for offer of appointment to the next kin of 42 people who died in bomb blasts, according to a WR release here today.

Out of the 87 applications received for the job in the railways from the kin of the blast victims, 42 cases have been scrutinised till date and appointment offers have been sent.

The 7/11 serial bomb blasts damaged seven suburban trains in Mumbai, in which 188 people were killed and over 800 others were injured. The serial blasts were the worst ever disaster in the Western Railway history.

Gauging the seriousness of the incident, Railways Minister Lalu Prasad had promised to induct one dependent of every deceased person in the Railways and also announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh.

The WR administration has taken steps to make the recruitment process easy with less procedural delays. After duly scrutinising the received applications, the Railways has sent offer for appointment to 42 candidates out of 87.

The remaining cases are being processed and offers will be soon sent, the release added.
