Well marked low pressure, very heavy rains in Bengal

Kolkata, Sep 20 (UNI) A well marked low pressure area has been marked over coastal gangetic plain under the influence of which heavy to very heavy rains will occur at almost all places in West Bengal.

The Met officials said the low pressure would remain in the state for more than three days.

''The system, tilting towards the southern part of the coastal gangetic Bengal, will cause heavy rains,'' Met warden K Sitaram said.

The low pressure had created a 'Vortex'(spinning of air) that causes a minor storm like situation, with the speed of about 50 kmph at Midnapore and 24 South Paraganas last night, Met department said.

They have also forecast heavy rainfall in Orissa, Jharkhand, Tripura, Andaman &Nicobar and gangetic West Bengal.

Kolkata experienced heavy rains last night with a wind speed reaching 30 kmph. This morning the sky remained overcast with spells of heavy rains and drizzles during the day.

The weathermen have given several port warnings in the state and predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall this evening.

The mercury took a dip from yesterday's 34 degree Celsius to 26 degree Celsius, thereby making the weather cold and swampy.

However, there was no change in the humidity level that remained at 97 per cent.
