New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) US-based web service provider WebEx communications today signed a partnership with Chennai-based Indicom Software and Services (ISS) to provide Indian universities with online technical training courses.

''With the WebEx model, major universities will now be able to tap students from across remote locations while overcoming physical infrastructure barriers,'' ISS CEO K B Sridhar said.

Mr Sridhar said with the WebEx based solution, universities will achieve economies of scale and will be able to tap potential students in remote areas.

The joint solution, based on the WebEx Training Center will provide hands-on experience for students across universities in the country, starting with Tamil Nadu. The joint offering will also allow universities to conduct online tests.

Universities which have affiliated colleges, distance education or exchange programmes are being targeted for this solution.

Currently, Indicom Software and Services offers technology solutions to educational institutions including setting up of mobile labs, faculty training programmes and student training programmes.

It launched a new division called Indiss E Learning and with Webex will scale out its current training programmes by drawing up MoUs with Universities across various cities in Tamil Nadu.

Indicom will start providing certificate courses on mobile computing for students and working professionals.

ISS will be conducting four pilots with identified universities.

The solution will enhance and complement the current study center model and educational institutions will be able to control assessment quality, which in turn will lead to assurance of quality and standardisation of courses.
