Traders protest affects MCD sealing drive;just 24 shops sealed

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) With the traders across the city coming out on the streets today during the Delhi bandh to launch a vociferous protest against the continued sealing of their premises by the MCD, the sealing drive by the corporation was severely affected with just 24 shops being sealed for misuse today.

As against more than 150 properties sealed yesterday and over 200 sealed the day before, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi today sealed 24 properties for misuse in compliance of the orders of the Supreme Court.

The properties sealed included six in Civil Lines, five in Rohini, three in South, one in Sadar Paharganj and nine in the West Zone.

In addition, 31 properties were sealed for unauthorised construction in compliance of the order of the High Court. These comprised 21 in Central Zone, five in Civil Lines and five in Rohini.

In Central Zone, encroachment removal action was carred out in Kalkaji and Chittranjan Park areas.

Today's Delhi Bandh, being supported by more than 500 trade bodies in different areas of the capital, saw traders giving a vent to their anger by organizing 'chakka jams' (traffic blockages) all over Delhi, specially at major traffic intersections in the capital including South Extension, Vikas Marg, Madhuban Chowk and Mayur Vihar. They also carried out protest demonsttrations against the MCD in various areas.
