Rains kill 31 people in the State
Hyderabad, Sep 19: Rain-related death toll mounted to 31 as heavy rains lashed coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions under the influence of a low pressure today.
At least 14 people were killed yesterday as heavy rains lashed the coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions.
Talking to newspersons here, State Disaster Management Additional Commissioner Priyadarshini said, the total death toll stood at 31, with 15 reported from Karimnagar district, seven from Guntur district, five from Warangal, two from Khammam and one each from Medak district and Adilabad.
She said the district authorities had taken necessary measures to protect the people living in low lying areas.
Three reilef camps had been opened in Karimnagar, five in Warangal and two in Khammam district.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy held a tele-conference with the District Collectors this morning and instructed them to take necessary steps to prevent any outbreak of contagious diseases, she added.
