Sealing: No cause for concern, says Congress

New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) Appealing to the people affected by the sealing drive of the MCD in Delhi not to be carried away by the BJP propaganda, the Congress today said that it stands by the notification issued by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, permitting mixed land use in over 2001 colonies.

The call for Delhi bandh for today given by the BJP exposed its double face, Congress Spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi said talking to media persons here.

He said the BJP was in power in Delhi for three times and all the MPs from Delhi in the 13th Lok Sabha were from the BJP, but did little to solve the problems of the people of Delhi.

Referring to the notification pending in the Supreme Court for hearing on September 26, Mr Chaturvedi pointed out that the intention of the Government was to do something to help the people in a way that not only the law was respected but the people were also not inconvenienced.

He said the Government first came out with a law to declare residential colonies as 100 per cent commercial that did not find favour with the court. On May 20 the Government brought out the Special Law provision seeking a one year moratorium on the sealing and demolition, but that too was disallowed by the court.

After the Tejinder Khanna Committee was formed and the Committee submitted its report, the Government came out with a notification providing for mix land use identifying 2000 roads for commercial use.The matter is since sub judice.

Stating that the Government stood by its notification, Mr Chaturvedi said there was no need for the affected people to be misguided by the BJP. "There is no cause for concern." He recalled that in the monsoon session of Parliament there was wide discussion on the situation obtaining in Delhi when Minister for Urban Development Jaipal Reddy had made a commitment that if necesary a special session of Parliament would be convened to enact a legislation.
