SBI commands deposits and advances mkt in MP, Chhattisgarh

Bhopal, Sep 20 (UNI) The SBI has claimed to possess the largest chunk of the market, in both deposits -- 24.17 per cent as on March 31, 2006 -- and advances -- 27.15 per cent -- in the operational area of the Bhopal Circle amongst all scheduled commercial banks.

The Bank's 470 branches in Madhya Pradesh have a total business of Rs 20,696 crore while the corresponding figures for Chhattisgarh are 222 and Rs 10,140 crore, said a release on performance highlights upto August 2006.

SBI's deposits in the Circle were to the tune of Rs 18,756 crore and advances were in the range of Rs 12,080 crore. Loans to the tune of Rs 5,085 crore were doled out to borrowers. Depositors number more than 50 lakh and borrowers exceed 9 lakh. The 2005-06 fiscal profit was Rs 578 crore.

The Bank has 294 ATMs and about 12 lakh card holders in these states and plans to set up 125 more machines during 2006-07. It issued 1,278 Kisan Gold Cards to farmers this year. A total of 1,235 SHGs were provided micro-credit to the tune of Rs 6.53 crore for 2006-07.

Madhya Pradesh is the sole state to implement online Commercial Tax payment by using the Corporate Internet Banking facility named 'Cyber Treasury'. At least 271 of the Circle's branches have been brought under a Core Banking Solution (CBS) platform. CBS enables online, real-time transaction processing.

Retail Assets Central Processing Centres here, at Indore, Raipur, Jabalpur and Gwalior have migrated to Core Banking. Small and medium Enterprises City Credit Centres have been rolled out at Bhopal and Indore. A Central Pension Processing Centre is functioning here, the release added.
