Rains lash parts of Punjab, HP
Chandigarh, Sep 20 (UNI) Rains have been lashing parts of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh since last night, bringing a considerable fall in the temperature in the tribal areas of the hilly state.
Humid weather conditions prevailed in the plains even as the sky remained partially cloudy at most places in the region.
The Weather Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, north and north-eastern parts of Punjab and north-eastern parts of Haryana during the next 48 hours.
Light to moderate rain pounded isolated places in Punjab with Nangal Dam site turning out to be the wettest place in the state, recording 30.2 mm downpour overnight. Amritsar and Shahpur Kandi towns registered 4.6 mm rainfall till 0830 hours.
Monsoon rain, however, eluded Haryana where no rainfall activity occured till this morning.
Parts of Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, were lashed by rain, dipping the temperature in the tribal belt, a report from shimla said.
Bhuntar, Bhang-Manali, Solang Nullah, Pandoh, Gamroor, Guler, Naudan and Dhundi areas of the state received light to moderate rainfall.
Rains also lashed Shimla and its adjoining areas in the afternoon, plummeting the temperature. Cold winds swept across the town following rainfall.
Chandigarh and its adjoining areas experienced humid weather conditions during the day.
