Prabhamrit topples top seed Baljinder Kaur in AITA series

Chandigarh, Sep 20 (UNI) Prabhamrit Kaur, Jaanesh Kaur, Roop Saran and Poorna, all from Chandigarh qualified for the girls Under-16 singles semi-finals in the Monsanto AITA Talent Series being played at the CLTA stadium here.

In the semi-final Prabhamrit Kaur faces Janeesh Kaur, while Poorna will clash with Roor Saran.

Fifth seed Prabhamrit Kaur created a flutter by shocking top seed Baljinder Kaur of Haryana in a quarter-final match in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Third seed Jaanesh Kaur also recorded a straight set 6-3, 6-2 win over Parminder Kaur of Chandigarh.

The best quarter-final match was played between unseeded Roop Saran and sixth seed Noor Paul, also of Chandigarh. Hitting from baseline, they exchanged strokes and were involved in long rallies.

In the end Roop scored a hard-fought 7-6 (4), 0-6, 6-4.

Fourth seed Poorna ousted seventh seed Shilpa Naruka 7-5, 6-2.

Giant-killer Digvijay Singh Mehta of Himachal Pradesh will face Akshat Joshi of Chandigarh in the boys Under-16 singles semi-final.

In the second semi-final, unseeded Amit Chouhan of Lake Club will lock horns with Tejvansh Singh of Punjab.

Amit Chouhan edged out seventh seed Harry S Amor 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Tejvansh accounted for sixth seed Garry S Amor 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Digvijay blanked Ajay Yadav 6-0, 6-0 and Akshat Joshi (Chd) beat Tanveer Sandhu (Chd) 6-1, 7-5.
