PMK MP urges territorial admn to end JIPMER employees strike
Puducherry, Sep 20 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi MP Prof Dhanraj today urged the territorial administration to take immediate steps to bring an end to the strike by Jipmer employees.
Talking to newspersons here, he alleged that the strike by JIPMER employees was instigated by some vested interests, including private medical colleges here.
The Puducherry administration was not taking any firm steps to end the strike which was not only illegal but contempt of court action, he said adding that he would seek the intervention of Lt Governor and Inspector General of Police on the issue.
Stating that most of the patients coming to JIPMER were from his Tindivanam constituency, Mr Dhanraj said they were badly hit by the strike.
He said he would organise the people in adjoining Tamil Nadu area to launch an agitation if the strike was not immediately called off.
When several colleges, including the Pondicherry Engineering College, Agricultural college, Dental College were functioning under a society, why there was so much resistance for granting autonomous status to JIPMER, which would raise the status of the medical institution on par with AIIMS, New Delhi, he added.
