Nigerian held for duping city industrialist
Coimbatore, Sep 20 (UNI) The City Crime Branch(CCB) police arrested a Nigerian yesterday on the charge of duping an indstrialist here to the tune of Rs ten lakh.
According to police, Gopi, a Non Resident Indian lured the industrialist Alex George by sending an e-mail saying that he had to look after his Rs 20 crore business, which he planned to start in the city. The Nigerian national also promised to send the cash by flight through a container as bank transaction would create tax problem.
Gopi also asked Alex to hand over a cash of Rs ten lakh to some officials at Mumbai for the illegal transaction. Believing him, Alex gave the amount to three agents of Gopi in Mumbai. As Gopi further sought Rs one lakh more, Alex suspecting him, asked Gopi to come here and collect the money.
A man, who claimed to be an assistant of Gopi met Alex to get the cash yesterday. He overpowered the man and informed the police.
During interrogation it was found that the man was a native of Nigeria, police added.
