Mizoram Taxi strike extended
Aizawl, Sep 20 (UNI) Life was paralysed throughout Mizoram with the extension of taxi strike by the Zoram Taxi Owners Association(ZTOA) against the transport authority's order of plying cabs according to registration numbers on alternate days.
ZTOA launched their agitation yesterday for 24 hours.
However, it was extended by two more days due to 'non response' from the government regarding their demand.
The organisation had also threatened to launch a vigorous movement if the government failed to fulfil their demands.
Talking to the media today ZTOA president K Lalfakzuala said the decision of plying taxis on alternate days would not ease traffic congestion in the state.''We are already victims of massive traffic snarls in the town areas and the new rule has posed a threat to our livelihood,'' said Mr Lalfakzuala.
He denied that taxis were the main cause of traffic congestion and said there were about 43,000 vehicles registered in Aizawl alone while taxis numbered about 2500 only.
