Manipur government inks truce with agitating students
Imphal, Sep 20 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has assured to meet the demands of the Churachandpur District Students' Union.
Mr Singh assisted by his ministers held a meeting yesterday to solve the demands of the students.
The students had been agitating over the power department's failure to provide regular power supply, along with recruitment of more teaching and medical staff in the district.
Mr Singh had earlier assured that the consumers electricity bill would be calculated at a minimum rate of 5 hours per day for the agitation period from December 2005 to February 2006.
The government had decided to pay ex-gratia and financial help to the victims of any insurgency related incidents caused in the state within this month, officials said.
The government had agreed to make the District Jail operational after renovation and recommended to set up an examination centre for examination conducted by central agencies in the district.
However Health minister Francis Ngajokpa and Education Minister Nandakumar had assured to fill up the vacant posts in their respective fields in the districts.
