Low pressure persists , more rains likely in AP
Vishakhapatnam, Sep 20 (UNI) With the three North Coastal districts receiving heavy inflows due to rains in its catchment areas during the last two days under the influence of a low pressure over Bay of Bengal, district officials have sounded a flood alert.
According to Cyclone Warning Centre, the low pressure area over North Coastal Andhra and neighbourhood persists. Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls are likely over Coastal Andhra during the next 24 hrs.
Strong surface winds from west with speed reaching 45-50 kmph are likely along and off Coastal Andhra Pradesh, the centre added.
More rains are predicted during the next 24 hrs.
District Collector Anil Kumar Singhal said here today the gates of Raiwda reservoir were lifted due to the heavy rains.
Mr Singhal said the water entered two habitations of Raiwada downstream. Irrigation officials sources said several reservoirs in the district recorded increase in water levels.
He said due to heavy inflows into Konam reservoir, the Meghadrigedda also received an inflow of 694 cusecs of water, Tandava 479 cusecs, Raiwada 435 cusecs, Konam 60 cusecs and Gambhiram 38 cusecs.
Meanwhile, inflow of water into Raiwada reservoir was regulated as heavy rain caused overflowing of water at a few places, he added.
