Jaya writes to President, PM to drop JIPMER autonomy move
Chennai, Sep 20 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has written to President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting them to drop the decision to accord autonomous status to JIPMER in Puducherry.
A delegtion of AIADMK MPs, headed by Mr P G Narayanan, would personally hand over the letters to the leaders in New Delhi, an AIADMK press release here said.
Representatives of JIPMER Staff Struggle Committee called on Ms Jayalalithaa on September 16 and sought her support to their proposed indefinite strike in protest against the Centre's decision, the release added.
They also sought her intervention in the matter to protect the interest of the prestigious institute and its staff. Ms Jayalalithaa had assured them of necessary help, the release added.
