Jaish commander killed in Doda

Jammu, Sep 20 (UNI) Security forces today gunned down a listed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant commander here in Kishtwar tehsil of Doda district, said police.

''JeM tehsil commander Javed Ahmed alias Jugnu (code: Aatish), resident of Sangram Bhatta in Kishtwar, was killed in a joint operation conducted by Rashtriya Rifles and local police this morning,'' Doda SSP Manohar Singh told UNI.

On a specific information regarding JeM commander's movement, security forces launched an operation from Nowapachi area last night.

He was intercepted at Rannaie village, about 60 km from Kishtwar and was killed in the encounter which lasted for four hours.

Earlier the militant was a section commander in Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI) outfit. He was listed in the 'A' category and was involved in several terrorist activities in Chhatru, Kisthwar and Marwah areas of Doda, SSP Singh added.

Security forces have recovered an AK-56 rifle, two magazines and 12 rounds from the site of encounter.
