Housing scheme for coastal people proposed
Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 20 (UNI) Kerala Revenue Minister K P Rajendran told the State Assembly today that people affected by sea erosion would be permanently rehabilitated by providing them houses.
Responding to a submission By Mr V Surendran Pillai (KC-J), he said four cents of land would be provided to each family and houses costing Rs two to three lakh would be constructed with the cooperation of voluntary organisations.
The Minister said nearly 17,000 families affected by sea erosion had to be rehabilitated under the scheme. Poonthura in thiruvananthapuram, Nayarambalam in Ernakulam and Edavilang in Thrissur districts were some of the places identified for implementation of the scheme, he added.
