Haryana assembly passes bill to set up Science university
Chandigarh, Sep 20 (UNI) The Haryana Assembly today passed a bill for setting up a Science and Technology University at Murthal in Sonepat district to promote studies and research on ''new frontiers'' of science, engineering, technology, architecture and management.
The House also passed four other bills seeking removal of the two-child norm for municipal members, removal of encroachments and safeguarding Wakf property in the state, increase in the pensions of ex-MLAs and in the house building advance for MLAs.
The proposed Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology, would be developed by upgrading the Chhotu Ram State College of Engineering at Murthal located close to the national capital.
The area was expected to attract a lot of modern industries in the field of Information Technology, ITES, Bio-technology and Nano-technology, said Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the Statement of Objects and Reasons of the Bill.
''The area is developing very fast. This necessitates superior academic facilities to provide knowledge support to the area,'' he added.
The university, he said, aimed to impart world class higher education and to provide research facilities in the frontier areas of science, engineering, technology, architecture and management studies.
It would also provide consultancy to nearby industries and act as a ''knowledge power house'' for industry and society, besides being a catalyst for upgradation of economy in the region, he added.
