Greenpeace activists take campaign to BMC
Mumbai, Sep 20 (UNI) Greenpeace activists, protesting against unchecked energy consumption in the city, knocked the doors of Brihanmumbai Municpal Corporation(BMC) by unfolding a 15x6 feet banner, which said 'Climate Change is Here, Switch for Mumbai' here today.
The activists, wearing life jackets and climate hazard signs, were detained by the police when they tried to storm the civic headquarters.
Greenpeace activist Soumyabrata Rahut said, ''The civic body should initiate steps to reduce total power consumption by at least 20 per cent.'' ''Switch for Mumbai'' is a call to everybody in the city, including the civic body, to come forward and play a pro-active role in containing the climate change, arguably one of the most serious catastrophic threat knocking Mumbai at the moment, Rahut asserted.
