Govt will work towards the welfare of disabled: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 20 (UNI) Kerala Education Minister M A Baby today said the mentally retarded children should be called as 'differently abled' instead of 'mentally disabled'.
Replying to the questions by Mr K T Jaleel (CPM-IND), he said the government will take necessary steps towards the welfare of such students after having discussions with the Health Department.
Mr Baby said, though the government will take all steps for providing training for English communication, it had no plan to encourage English as a medium of teaching instead of from Malayalam in government run schools as followed by unaided schools.
He said no irregularities had been pointed out in the C&G report on conducting the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSB) project in the state in 2005.
On upgrading and alloting new schools in unaided sector, he said the government will take a comprehensive decision on it.
Pointing out the reducing number of children in government run schools, the Education Minister said it could be solved with the help of local self financing institutions.
He also assured that all necessary steps will be taken to construct toilets in government run schools.
