Govt to take steps to remove apprehension of minorities on Act

Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 20 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said that his government would take steps to remove the apprehension of the minorities regarding clauses in the Self-financing Professional Colleges Act through negotiations with them.

Talking to mediapersons after a meeting of the State Cabinet, he said leaders of the minority communities had been asked to inform the government in writing apprhensions, if any, on the Act in two weeks.

The Chief Minister said himself and members of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on self-financing professional colleges had held talks with leaders of the Christian and Muslim communities and religious heads in this regard today.

Claiming that the Left movement was always in the forefront in upholding minority rights, Mr Achuthanandan said the Left Democratic Front government in the State would never take any step harming the rights of the minorities guaranteed by the Constitution.
