Gold coins, Euros seized at Anna Airport

Chennai, Sep 20 (UNI) Air Customs officials today seized 308 gold coins, weighing 2496 grams, 6650 Euros and 12 mobile phones from a passenger, who arrived here by a Lufthansa flight from Paris.

Air Customs Commissioner Rajan said here today the value of the seized items was about Rs 25 lakh.

The passenger, Varadharasu Ramaraj, having a French Passport and residing in Puducherry, appeared restless while waiting to collect his baggage near the conveyor belt at the Anna International Airport.

On suspicion, Air Intelligence Unit officials questioned him and checked his baggage. He had concealed the gold coins worth Rs 20.46 lakh in a thermos flask. They also seized the Euros worth Rs 3.81 lakh and the mobile phones worth Rs 75,000.

In another seizure, Customs officials seized Indian currencie worth Rs three lakh from a Bahrain bound passenger being carried without valid documents.
