ESI scheme to be extended in NE region
Aizawl, Sep 20 (UNI) The Employees State Insurance Scheme(ESI),which is now operative in Assam and Meghalaya, would now be extended to all other states of the north east region.
The preliminary exercise for the implementation of the scheme at Aizawl in Mizoram, Agartala in Tripura and Dimapur in Nagaland has almost been completed, the official sources said here today.
It is expected that the scheme would be implemented in these states during the current year itself.
In the rest of the states the scheme would be implemented soon.
Although the ESI scheme was first implemented at five centres in Assam in 1958, the scheme has seen a slow progress.
However, the corporation is now making concerted efforts to extend this scheme to different areas in the region and has posted an officer of the rank of commissioner in the region for this purpose, the sources added.
