Congress condoles rain victims

Hyderabad, Sep 19 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee today condoled the death of 31 people in rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh since September 14.

The extended meeting of the APCC Executive and the Congress Legislature Party, in an unanimous resolution exhorted the party members to rush to the rescue of the affected people.

Briefing newsmen, All India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh said the party expresses its sympathies to the bereaved families, and called upon the Government to take immediate effective measures to mitigate their suffering, particularly those marooned. It also promised adequate compensation to the bereaved families.

The party appreciated the quick response of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government in starting rescue and relief operations, he said and recalled that the Centre had appreciated the state for taking prompt action during the last spell of floods.
