Cong demands sacking of Minister for remarks on Tipu
Bangalore, Sep 20 (UNI) The Congress in Karnataka today demanded the sacking of Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy for his 'vituperative remarks' on erstwhile Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan.
Speaking to newspersons here, Congress leaders, led by party State Vice-President H Hanumanthappa, took exception to the remarks and said the Minister had no right to continue in the post. He had stoked the feelings of a particular community by indulging in such remarks, they contended.
They observed that Tipu was a great patriot and his respect for all religions and languages was well known. Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple at Srirangapatna and Sringeri Math would vouch for the secular credentials of Tipu, they pointed out.
Others present in the news conference included party State General Secretaries Prakash Rathod, Abdul H Wahab and M Ramachandrappa, Party Chief Whip in the Legislative Council Salim Ahmed and former Ministers H Vishwanath and Sagir Ahmed.
