Charges framed against Pappu Yadav
New Delhi, Sep 20 (UNI) A local court today framed charges against MP Rajesh Ranjan Yadav alias Pappu Yadav for filing a false affidavit.
The charges were framed in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate after the presiding officer, Dr Kamini Lau heard both the arguments of the prosecution and Mr Yadav's counsel.
Mr Yadav has been charged under sections 181, 182, 193 read with section 199 of the IPC.
In her order, Dr Lau said that Mr Yadav had during the hearing of a criminal writ petition in the Delhi High Court on March 26, 1999, made a declaration that he was a resident of the capital and had completed two terms as an MP, thus there was no question of his absconding or tampering with the evidence or terrorising the witnesses.
However, the declaration was false and Mr Yadav knew it at that time, and the High Court so ruled by its judgement dated May 5, 1999, the Magistrate said, adding proceedings would commence against the MP under these sections of the IPC, conviction under which carries a sentence of a maximum of seven years imprisonment.
