Call for integrated approach to rise sugarcane production

Puducherry,Sept 20(UNI)Puducherry agriculture secretary A Anbarasu today stressed the need for integrated planning and approach to ensure higher production of sugarcane and increased recovery of sugar.

Inaugurating the 38th meeting of sugarcane research and development workers, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry here today Mr.Anbarasu called for indepth research activities for developing new variety of sugarcanes for the benefit of the farmers.

He said the Puducherry administration would sanction necessary funds to work out result-oriented research activites. It was the concern of the farmers that they should get fair prices for their crops, he added.

He also said the challenges the farmers were facing should be taken care of particularly, when agriculture was neglected in view of importance given to secondary and tertiary sectors.

Mr Thevaneethi Das,district collector and administrator of the co-operative sugar mills here who presided over the function said sustainability, profitability and productivity in sugarcane cultivation should be given importance and appealed to the scientific community to evolve necessary strategies to augument technological developments.
